Since July 2021, Breanna Kofstad has been the owner of the Salol One Stop. However, the gas station and liquor store have been in operation as Salol's only business for over twenty years. There are a variety of things that make the Salol One Stop unique. “We have old school pumps, where you can't pay at the pump,” Breanna stated, “You have to come inside to pay. Then, we have a few specialties that normal gas stations don't.” She described how they carry local steak that you can buy frozen, as well as bulk appetizers and chicken wings. A lot of people stop in when they're out camping, headed to the lake, or to a cabin.
Breanna wasn’t expecting to own a gas station and liquor store, but after quitting her job to stay home with her kids during COVID, she was looking for something that offered more flexibility. Becoming a business owner has been a challenge, Breanna admits, saying after buying the Salol One Stop, they did a big remodel. “We shut down the store for about ten days. In the remodel, we had Robin Hood Business Services come in and give us our new POS system, because it was previously on an older till where you couldn’t scan any items. You just had to punch in the price. This was a huge change…putting in all the items and their proper skews.”
The previous owner already had a relationship with Robin Hood Business Services and was working on getting a new POS system, so Breanna just took over that contract. Breanna was enthusiastic about working with Robin Hood Business Services, “I had no idea what I was doing. I was brand new to this. I had employees I had to train, so there was a huge learning curve on our end. They did a really great job. Not only was I new to the POS, but I was new to the store and to the industry. There's a lot that I didn't know, so I relied heavily on Robin Hood Business Services to hold my hand through the first couple of months. They were very patient with us, and they were very available. I know some days I called them like three or four times, but they did a really great job. They are a huge part of why we were able to be successful.”
Sales at the Salol One Stop have almost tripled from previous years. “People in the community were really excited to see their store getting a little facelift. We got a lot of positive feedback, so there was a lot more business,” Breanna said. “If we didn't have the POS system, we would have been hurting.”
Breanna gave an example of the excellent customer service Robin Hood Business Service provides: “I can't count the number of times that I've felt like a needy client…but there's a sense of urgency when you've got somebody waiting to pay for the gas that they've already pumped. It's not like they can leave and go somewhere else. They put the gas in their car, and I need to figure out how they can pay! So their ability to be there for us, when we really need it, has been great. There have definitely been times that we've been a little frazzled on our side, but they've been very gracious and helpful throughout the whole process.”
